Islamophobia in Canada: Three arrested in Edmonton for mosque donation theft and related offenses

Police in Edmonton have arrested three individuals in connection with the theft of security deposit boxes from a mosque in the city’s west end last month.

AhlulBaayt News Agency: Police in Edmonton have arrested three individuals in connection with the theft of security deposit boxes from a mosque in the city’s west end last month.

According to a statement from the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), the suspects—two men and one woman, all between the ages of 25 and 27—were apprehended on March 25 on Tsuut’ina Nation, a First Nation community bordering Calgary, Alberta.

The trio is facing a total of 22 pending criminal charges, including those related to firearms and illegal drug possession, City News reported on Tuesday.

The arrests follow an incident that occurred three days earlier, when a man and woman reportedly entered a mosque located at 216 Street and 100 Avenue without authorization.

EPS says the pair allegedly stole multiple security deposit boxes containing donations in the form of cash and cheques, which had been collected from mosque-goers over the previous week.

Security camera footage captured the suspects inside the mosque for approximately 10 minutes before they exited the premises. Authorities believe the two were then picked up by a third accomplice, who acted as the getaway driver.
